ABOUT SHOWS & CLASSES

ART SHOWS:  We participate in about a dozen juried fine arts and crafts shows each year. The events generally run from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday (except for Apple Annie’s in December). Visit the web sites indicated for more information.

CLASSES:  Numerous leather crafting classes are scheduled throughout the year for beginners through to advanced students. All leather, materials, tools, decorations, straps, tassels, etc. are provided. For one-day classes you only need to bring your lunch and enthusiasm…to make something beautiful!

LEATHER 1 CLASS introduces you to the basic techniques of bag construction, stitching, decoration, and some use of the wood-burning tool. You will make one “standard sized” bag which has been pre-cut and pre-punched for you. Your part will be to choose the colors and types of leathers you want for the bag, stitch it, and decorate it. This is generally a one-day class from about 10:30am to around 4:30pm. This would serve as your first bag during a week-long course, after which you would continue with your own designs (Leather 2 level).

LEATHER 2 CLASS  introduces you to actually cutting your own leather after choosing a template or designing your own. You will use tools to create holes for stitching, add your closure, make a gusset, add decorations, and use the wood-burning tool, and learn basic colorizing techniques. You can choose to craft a “standard bag” size or a larger bag from available templates. Some knowledge of bag construction is helpful, along with stitching techniques. This is also generally a one-day class from 10:30am to 4:30pm. However, you may end up taking your bag home with you to finish it, depending on the size that you choose.

WEEK-LONG CLASSES are more advanced and generally are scheduled during a week-long class – see schedules. You can choose to learn new techniques in stitching, bag design, using different closures, making your own gussets, setting stones in leather, making leather jewelry, learning the dry color wax technique of colorizing, crafting Black Powder/Mountain Man shoulder bags, and more. Generally, there is time during the week for you to make up to 4 bags, depending on size and complexity. Week-long classes usually begin on Sunday evenings and conclude on Friday mornings. Visit the venue’s web site for more details.

SCHEDULE YOUR OWN CLASS! If you wish to schedule your own class for family, friends, or group, please email us for details, fees, etc. We need a minimum of 5 students and can go up to 15. Tom will travel beyond a 40-mile radius of Dahlonega, but mileage charges will be added to the student fee. Plan on a full day – from 10am to 5pm.
